Tropical Depression opens with a life already in ruins. Billy Knight has lost his family and his career after a hostage situation goes catastrophically wrong, and he retreats to Key West hoping for something quieter—fishing boats, sun, and enough distance from the violence he used to live with. But the past does not stay politely behind him for long. When an old colleague pulls him back toward trouble, Billy is forced into a world of danger he wanted to escape, in a setting that feels laid-back on the surface but hides plenty of menace underneath. The premise has a hard-boiled, sun-scorched feel, mixing burnout, regret, and reluctant detective work into something grittier and more stripped-down than a conventional thriller.
