The Running Grave

Cormoran Strike #7
The Running Grave (2023)

The Running Grave sends Strike and Robin into one of their most dangerous cases when a desperate father asks them to help rescue his adult son from a religious group in rural Norfolk. On the surface, the Universal Humanitarian Church presents itself as peaceful and idealistic, but the deeper the investigation goes, the more sinister it starts to feel. What gives the novel its particular force is that this is not just a matter of solving a crime from the outside. The case demands real personal risk, and that gives the story a more claustrophobic, psychologically intense edge than many of the earlier books. It is still recognizably a Strike novel, with layered detective work and the steady pull of Strike and Robin’s partnership, but this time the threat comes from manipulation, control, and the frightening power of a closed world that does not want to be understood.
