Sulfur Springs

Cork O’Connor #16
Sulfur Springs (2017)

Sulfur Springs is a Cork O’Connor novel that takes the series out of Minnesota and into the tense, dangerous landscape of the Arizona borderlands. The story begins when Cork and his new wife, Rainy Bisonette, receive a desperate call from Rainy’s son Peter, who seems to confess that he has killed a man before the connection cuts out. Cork and Rainy head south to find him, only to discover that Peter has vanished into a world of fear, secrecy, and escalating violence.

Set around the border between Arizona and Mexico, the novel has a harder, more exposed feel than the woods-and-water atmosphere of the earlier Cork O’Connor books. It combines missing-person suspense with family strain, moral pressure, and the hazards of a place shaped by conflict and mistrust. Readers can expect a fast-moving, high-stakes mystery that pushes Cork well outside his usual ground while keeping the series’ emotional focus on loyalty, responsibility, and the cost of trying to protect the people closest to you. As the sixteenth Cork O’Connor novel, it marks a notable shift in setting while still centering the character-driven tension that defines the series.
