Pitch Dark begins when legendary bush pilot Josie Jonson thinks she has found an unlikely stroke of luck. After buying land near Prentiss Pond in the North Maine Woods, she meets Mark Redmond, a skilled builder who offers to construct her dream cabin on one condition: he and his twelve-year-old daughter, Cady, must be left alone. The arrangement seems unusual but manageable until Mike Bowditch learns that “Mark Redmond” is actually a fugitive with a violent past, forcing the Maine game warden into a manhunt across some of the state’s harshest terrain.

What makes the premise especially strong is the way Paul Doiron combines a hidden-identity thriller with the series’ familiar wilderness pressure. This is not just a chase story. The presence of a child complicates every decision, and the North Maine Woods become more than backdrop, turning the pursuit into a test of endurance, judgment, and survival. Pitch Dark keeps the series rooted in Maine’s remote landscape while sharpening the suspense around a dangerous man who has every reason not to be taken alive.
