Stone Barrington #17
Kisser (2009)

Show business, hidden baggage, and Manhattan trouble collide in Kisser. Back in New York and handling what seem like manageable matters for his law firm, Stone Barrington becomes involved with a beautiful aspiring actress named Carrie Cox. The attraction is immediate, but so is the sense that Carrie’s past is not safely behind her. As Stone looks more closely, he finds himself dealing with a possessive ex-husband, a vulnerable young heiress in danger from a con man and drug dealer, and a financial fraud scheme that widens the threat far beyond one romance.

The novel has the polished, fast-moving energy typical of Stuart Woods, but the premise here is especially tangled, moving easily between glamour, criminal manipulation, and social privilege. Readers can expect a brisk suspense story with overlapping dangers, plenty of momentum, and a tone that stays sleek even as Stone gets pulled into a messier and more dangerous web than he first expects.
